Phony Stuff (まやかしもの, Mayakashimono) is the 36th chapter of the Gantz manga, written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku.

Synopsis[]
The chapter begins directly after the last one ended. Kei Kurono is standing directly behind the Tanaka Alien, who is shouting "Kantaro" repeatedly. Kei, anxious and confused does nothing, and the alien begins to turn away before it looks back with a rageful expression on its face. Kei tries to slowly walk away but begins running towards Masaru Kato when the Tanaka Alien begins walking towards him. Meanwhile, in the Gantz Room, Tetsuo Nemoto is attempting to rape Kei Kishimoto, despite her obvious protests, before he is teleported away with his pants below his waist.
Masaru tells everyone to step back and gets confirmation from Kurono that it is, in fact, the Tanaka Alien, who has since calmed down and regained its happy expression. Tetsuo, Kinji Nishikawa and Haruya Numata are sceptical due to its unintimidating appearance, but when Masaru questions Kurono, he tells him to remember the onion Alien mission, where a much stronger alien appeared after they had dealt with the first one.
Just as they question what course of action they should take, however, Joichiro Nishi steps on one of the Tanaka Alien Infants by accident whilst he is invisible, breaking his cover and earning an angered expression and lethal shriek from the Tanaka Alien. Joichiro jumps off the bridge in order to escape, but the Tanaka Alien follows, and the chapter ends with the two of them about to battle in the water below.
