Underwater Enemy (潜行の魔手, Senkō no Mashu) is the 39th chapter of the Gantz manga, written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku.

We see a nearly completely naked Kei Kishimoto, this time she is seen standing while bending down, wearing only a bra besides her Gantz Suit gloves and boots. She is also seen holding an X-shotgun in her hands.

Synopsis

Beginning directly after the end of the previous chapter, Masaru Kato is seen standing in the waters below the bridge, looking around erratically for the Tanaka Alien which has just submerged itself underwater. He is being heckled at all the while by Tetsuo Nemoto, Haruya Numata and Kinji Nishikawa, who joke about Masaru dying and having his legs dismembered by the Tanaka Alien. Kei Kishimoto suddenly shouts out at them, however, begging them to help Masaru, but to no avail. After her pleas, they walk away, stating that they are going to go home, and soon after, Kayo Sugihara, Ryota Sugihara and Masanobu Hojo also depart. Just as Kei Shakily gets up onto the guard railings and prepares to jump down, Kei Kurono stops her, and shakily states that he will go instead.

Meanwhile, Masaru is still panicking below and is pointing his gun in random directions. He quickly remembers that the gun has a time delay, however, and using it to his advantage, fires the gun several times directly in front of him and near Joichiro Nishi's body. When he runs to Joichiro, the time delay ends and the water explodes directly behind him several times, pushing him forwards at high speeds and forcing the Tanaka Alien back due to the intense waves. Once Masaru reaches Joichiro's body, he tries to speak with him, but upon realising that he cannot hear, places him on his back and rushes to the river bank, using the technique he used prior. Joichiro tells him to stop moving so fast and Masaru puts him down in the water close to the bank, while he catches his breath.

Masaru then begins walking towards Joichiro, but as soon as he does so, the Tanaka Alien jumps out of the water and directly towards him, preparing to unleash a powerful Shriek attack at close range. Kurono suddenly fires at the Tanaka Alien from the stairs above, using Masaru's non-lethal weapon, in order to restrain it. However, he misses his shot, and the chapter ends with the Tanaka Alien once again about to unleash its attack onto Masaru.
